Ahead of the U.S. presidential election on Tuesday, TGH dives into several of the top voting issues, including abortion, gun policy, health care, and immigration.
To kick off that analysis, journalist Sarah Muthler reports on how the outcome of the presidential election and down-ballot races will determine whether gun violence research is allowed to proceed after years of withheld funding.
Turning to a doubleheader on migration, journalist Vida Foubister interviews Heidi E. Jones, a reproductive epidemiologist, about the obstacles immigrants face when trying to access abortion services in the United States.
Foubister then reports how New York City–based doctors are teaching mental health skills to non-mental health providers and expanding telehealth options to improve access to mental health care for members of the African diaspora.
TGH’s Alejandra Martinez continues the conversation on abortion with Selina Sandoval, associate medical director at Planned Parenthood Great Plains. Sandoval explains the extent to which people are migrating to medical providers in abortion-lenient states.
Wrapping up, CFR Senior Fellow David P. Fidler outlines the difficulties World Health Organization (WHO) member states are encountering as they negotiate a pandemic agreement, and how consensus is unlikely to be met during the twelfth round of talks in early November.
