Think Global Health

A "Radical Plan," Empty Rhetoric at the G20, and Thanksgiving Thoughts

November 25, 2022

Editors' Note

This week, science reporter and Council on Foreign Relations Edward R. Murrow Press Fellow Amy Maxmen provides a behind-the-scenes look at her reporting and Big Picture Science podcast on "the hub," a radical project to empower lower-income countries to make their own vaccines.

David P. Fidler shares a wrap-up of the recent Group of Twenty (G20) meeting in Bali, Indonesia, where multiple crises that threaten global health were on the menu but  "deepening dissonance" over geopolitics took center stage.

A third piece explores the importance of the National Day of Mourning in the United States and includes reflections from a member of the United American Indians of New England, one of the lead organizers of the event.

For those Americans who recognize Thanksgiving, a slideshow highlights the revenge of the birds—an examination of avian flu and how it could influence this year's "Turkey Day."

As always, thank you for reading. —Thomas J. Bollyky and Mary Brophy Marcus, Editors
