Martin D. Smith is a distinguished professor of environmental economics at Duke University and an expert in oceans, coasts, and global seafood markets. He's a fellow and past president of the International Institute of Fisheries Economics and Trade and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has served as a member of the Ocean Studies Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, editor-in-chief of the journal Marine Resource Economics, and a member of the Scientific and Statistical Committee of the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council.
