Melanie Coronel Santillan
Melanie Coronel Santillan is a licensed physician with specialization in pediatric medicine. She is involved with the Philippines' National Health Insurance Program (NHIP), steering policy research and development that are pertinent to health financing and social health insurance, specifically in the areas of provider payment design, strategic purchasing, and negotiation where she introduced the standard process for benefits development, the framework for costing of health-care services and contracting of health-care providers. She had previous engagements in the health technology assessment of drugs and procedures as applied to reimbursements and benefits coverage, as well as extensive experience on the development of standards for accreditation of health care providers. Her current engagement in the NHIP is now focused on the expansion and innovation of learning modules for stakeholders, which are relevant to the implementation of universal health care.
