Sameer Abbasi
Sameer Abbasi, a junior at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign studying molecular and cellular biology, has strong aspirations of becoming a physician. He is a member of the Global Leaders Program, under which students leverage human-centered design thinking to develop sustainable solutions to both domestic and international social challenges. He has developed curriculums for organizations in Pakistan and Kenya, sparking his interest in the interplay of education, economic, and health systems and their influence on a community's health. As president of the Social Justice Initiative on campus, Sameer explores the root causes of social inequities through interdisciplinary approaches. Having spent half of his life in Pakistan, Sameer is a global health advocate with a strong interest in health systems research. He is particularly passionate about examining how structural and structural dynamics shape access, delivery, and outcomes across health systems.
